Lean Manufacturing for Electronic Products

Simply put, Lean Manufacturing is a set of systems, tools, and processes that are designed to help companies find waste in their manufacturing systems.

Waste comes in many forms.  It might be obvious, such as scrap material.  In other cases, it can be much more difficult to spot - for example, through the unnecessary moving of equipment back and forth.  Lean is related to DFM, with the two related but different systems complementing each other.

We admit we are a design engineering company, not a manufacturing engineering company.  Consequently, while we understand Lean principles and manufacturing floor optimization, this is not our core expertise.  If manufacturing improvement alone is your goal, we can refer you to Lean experts that can help you on your way.

Our expertise is tying the engineering design effort and Lean Manufacturing techniques together.  Lean is of limited use if the product, as designed, does not lend itself to Lean manufacturing systems.  One complements the other, and while you can get some benefit from doing either, you get the most benefit by doing both at once.

Lean manufacturing engineers often understand Lean on the manufacturing floor, but have difficulty communicating their preferences to the design group.  We can bridge the gap by educating both sides about how the two groups need to work together.  In this way, your design and manufacturing work together to streamline your business.
